Day Four - Bible Engagement is the Key

After watching the video, engage the following information:

So many times, we have the thought that Bible engagement simple means "reading Scripture." I want you to stop thinking this way and start thinking about it from a different perspective: engaging Scripture in a way that helps you do two things: 1) understand it; and 2) apply it.

Do this exercise:

Write out the different ways that biblical truth has been helpful to you: listening to preaching, reading the Bible, thinking about biblical concepts, watching video devotions online, etc. What are the ways these help you the most? What is the most effective? What Bible preachers connect well with you? Have you ever considered journaling?

A point of emphasis:

Most people are somewhat overwhelmed or intimidated by trying to just pick up the Bible and start reading or studying it. Good news for you: there are many helps today for you to be able to consistently engagement Scripture in a way that will help you both understand andapply it.

We have developed a Bible engagement method that we call the CORE Journal. I encourage you to give it a try. It is developed from the idea of providing short passages to engage with a passage guide for each day and a engagement plan that will help you apply what God is teaching you. The CORE Journal is designed around four words: connect, observe, related, engage (C.O.R.E.). Here is a link to the promotional video: CORE Journal | A Productive Method for Engaging Scripture .

We have Volume One available now, and Volume Two is getting close to being finished for printing. Volume One is 12 weeks of Bible engagement in two areas that are extremely important for the religious doubter:

1. Renewing the Mind

2. Learning to Pray

If you are interested in trying the CORE Journal, it is available in two formats: print and online. The print version is usually what we recommend because of the importance of actually writing in a physical journal. It will help you remember more of what you are engaging. We do have each week in a format that you can access online using your own paper journal for notes. We have also provided a PDF of the paper copy of the CORE Journal. Feel free to print it out and use it, if this is helpful for you:

Reflect:

Take a few minutes and reflect upon the importance of Bible engagement and what you need to do to make this happen on a regular basis.. Take a look at the CORE Journal method and decide if it is something you could do. If you want to try another method, please do so! The most important thing is for you to find something that helps you both understand and apply Scripture to you...and that you will engage it on a regular basis.
